"An aesthetic visual design with an easy-to-use interface only makes a difference if you can help users discover the world of finance. The design challenge often played in presenting categories of the difference between asset classes shares, ETFs, Cryptos or commodities and the popularity of such a long list. Making a UX design for buying and selling is the easy part."
In the Brand Story about BUX, I shared the evolution of the CFD app and the NEO broker we built offering investing in long-term, commission-free, about a family of financial apps under the umbrella company BUX. Next, I'll share more about the story behind the latest redesign, which I led, about the choices we made for typography, colour, icons and Illustrations. And how we disturbed and delivered all assets in mindful steps for the whole company.
We didn't have a project manager, so I created a plan with the Head of Brand to divide the workload among both teams. I presented concepts for typography, colours and visual language while she worked on the mission. The leading verb we both found very interesting was BUILD. We both were done with democratising the world of finance, being revelationary like Trade Republic, Robinhood, Freetrade or Revolut's of the world. It's somewhat bullshit stories anyways. Helping the poor to become rich or breaking out of a banking system. It sounds like Fintech propaganda and a flipped story to become rich fast over your neighbour's back.
The four main illustrations above explain it all. It's about DIY investing. Be in control of your decisions, start small and BUILD op your wealth for later. Anyone that is a little familiar with Dollar Cost Averaging knows the long-term strategy. The Illustrations above tell a story about dreams and wishes. For example, The man with the miniature scale-modal car dreams of a Tesla. He starts small but thinks big. It's not about getting rich fast it's not about the Democratization of Banking or helping "poor" people. Nowadays, all financial apps have an easy-to-use interface and a fast onboarding process. It's 2023, be real. The big competition is pricing and assets. I guess we covered the mission, do it yourself, be in control and do more with your money.
At the same time of the redesign project, we did research about automated investing, a Savings Plan. My team had four product designers and one of the guys was dedicated to the feature. Worked together with a UX Copywriter and UX Researcher on the MVP. With the commission free orders we had the system in place to execute large badges at the end of the day and with our ETFs we had "affordable assets" for lower budgets.
During a huge redesign project; the complexity for a product team is building features in two versions. Version (A) is your current design, and version (B) is your new design. As a team, you must keep up the velocity and communicate clearly with your engineers, backend, frontend and QA.
